Festive cupcakes using a Petunia Mould

How to make an easy Poinsettia flower. Christmas cupcakes using a Petunia Mould

Festive cupcakes using a Petunia Mould

This is a good tutorial on how to use the Petunia Mould and Cutter Set.  It is a very easy to use mould and very versatile making poinsettia style flowers for Christmas Cupakes.

Roll out the icing. We have used ready to roll icing or sugarpaste that has been mixed with Tylose or CMC.  You can easily make your own modelling icing by mixing 1 tsp CMC to about 250g icing. Knead well.  If it is not stiff enough, add a little more powder and work well.

Using the Petunia cutter, cut out two flowers.

Carefully remove the excess icing from the two flowers.

Place the flower onto the Mould and line up the petals.

Press the Mould firmly to add detail and veining to your flower.

Gently lift the flower using a brush.

In the centre of the bottom flower, place a small amount of edible glue.  You can make your own easy edible glue by my mixing CMC powder or Tylose with a little water.

Rotate the second flower so that the petals are not aligned.

Using a fine paint brush, detail the flower with edible gold shimmer,  I like to use Rainbow Dusts excellent range.

Add water or alcohol to the shimmer to paint fine details.

Glue a gold pearl in the centre of the flower.

Dip your cupcake into melted chocolate and sprinkle with green edible glitter.  It is very important to use edible glitter and not just non toxic glitter.  Rainbow Dust has a great range of edible glitters and they are available from many cake decorating supply stores.

Place your decorated flower onto your cupcake.
